According to the definition of Section 4 (1) of the Criminal Procedure Code of 1897, a police station or thana shall mean a police station or thana declared by any center or area government.
The area declared by the government in this regard shall belong to a police station.
The police station is becoming a unit of investigation. There are also police outposts and police camps under some police stations. But they are not the center of the investigation.
Origin of the word Thana from the word Thine. Literally, a police station is a specific area where the police conduct administration by ordering the government to maintain law and order.
